JPKA 1st round Tokai Cup
The JPKA Japan Tour Tokai Cup was held on 25-26 June at Tatsuta, Kiso-riv. It was 1st freestyle round and 2nd race round of 2011. We had 16 registered riders from all over Japan for the event. At this time, just one girl joined this event. It's me! So, I had to compete with all the guys not only racing but also freestyle.
The first day was no wind all day long as expected. At this time, normally we're due to be in the rainy season but it was sunny and really hot then. We were almost melting! So, we just had fun with SUP and rescue boat. After that, each riders was hanging out night on the town.
Day two started with 6-10 knots wind and looked like it's gonna be picking up. All riders pumped their biggest kite. After a while, first race has started. I went out with Crossbow 13m and Race 178. Wind was enough but I crashed few times because it was not so wide river. I had to tack many times and wind was gusty near the shore. I finished 3rd place at the first race.
Soon after that, freestyle was started. I gotta be ready for it soon. It was light wind 10-14 knots then. So, I decided to use Crossbow 13m. I knew Crossbow is not so good for freestyle but I've got more points than my opponent. I thought wind was too light for guys. Anyway luckily I could keep winning. Then I just realized I was on the finals already! Of course, it was against Hiro who is current Japanese Campion and one of the best rider in Asia. So, I was happy to take on him. But I knew it's impossible to win. I was just having fun during the heat.
In the end, he won the game and I've got 2nd. But I received a lot of satisfaction from the result because I've done my best. After the freestyle, we had one more race and then finished all the program.
Results
-2nd Freestyle overall
-3rd Race overall
and of course I won the women's category...
Next JPKA will be coming up on September. I'm looking forward to it.
And,,,, we need girls!!
Thank you for Cabrinha, M-air, Kaenon.

Course Race Comp
I've been in Karasu, Ise Bay on 22 May to join the course race event "Karasu Nagisa Cup". It's the 1st round of JPKA Japan Tour 2011 course race series.
This event has race board class and twin tip class because still only few people has race board in Japan. However total number of participants are less than 10. I guess the reason is Japanese kiters don't know about course racing yet and kiting is NOT popular in Japan in the first place.
Anyway event has started. In the morning, it was sunny and warm but no wind. Then wind was coming with dark clouds. So, everybody knew it was supposed to be heavy rain and that is exactly what happened. All we could do was just waiting for the rain to stop.
After a while, rain was gone with wind! All we could do was still just waiting... After another hour, slight off shore breeze was coming and 2-3 guys went out and started cruising. It looked there was enough wind out there. Then race derector decided to start 1st race.
Everybody got ready for start but wind was dropping down. Finally no one could ride when red flag was up. It was 5 pm already. Unfortunately no races have done on the day. I hope we have good wind next time!

rainbow
I went kiting to Toyokawa beach. Wind was good but I couldn't do well because I was exhausted from yesterday's sick session with my friend who is Japanese Liquid Force team rider. He taught me dangle pass and I just started practice. So, still I have muscle pain... Anyway, was good sess again today. My friend shot us with GoPro.
After shooting, rain was coming and wind dropped. But we saw beautiful rainbow!
Actually I wasn't satisfied then. But felt better when I saw it. Well,,, if I have good camera I can make much better photo!
After that, I packed my stuff and started driving to home. Then I saw beautiful thing again. It was sunset.
It was not so good day for me just about kiting, but they made me happy :) Yea, I can do better next time!

drift...
I checked the wind on internet in the afternoon. It looked not so good. But I decided to go kiting because I know if I don't go I just think about wind and I cannot concentrate any other things...
When I arrived the beach, I saw many flying kites.
-This is Tatsuta beach, Kiso river. 1.5 hours from my home. Most of the time I do kiting here in summer.
Although it looked not so windy... about 10knots. So, I pumped my Crossbow 13m and went out on race board. I know this river is not wide enough for racing. I just practiced tack and jibe. It's better than I can't stay up wind.
After about 1 hour, wind was dropping down. But I was still riding then. Unfortunately I dropped my kite opposite side of the river. There's no beach when it's high tide. What the hell... tide was coming then. It means so fast current from upwind to downwind. I tried to re-launch but I couldn't. I drifted! So, I was resigned to lying on the kite and using it like a sail. At last I got to the beach so far from the place I was. I felt blue.... But luckily my kindly friend came by car and picked me up there. It was great!
I guess I'm gonna never use race board here this river. Come to think of it, I lost my board when I drifted. Therefore my another friend picked it up by SUP. Well, I have to help his school next time!
Anyway thank you so much!! It'll never happen again.
